GROOM Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2008
The bouquet is good, but it is the great vibrancy, almost urgency, of the palate that gives this wine its quality and style, with a long, grainy finish. Screwcap. 12.9% alc. Rating 95 To 2011
GROOM Barossa Valley Shiraz 2007
Against all the odds, has some spicy/savoury aromas expected from a cool vintage, not a hot one; supple, juicy black fruits and licorice on the palate follow down a similar path, fine tannin to close. Cork. 14.5% alc. Rating 94 To 2017
GROOM Bush Block Barossa Valley Zinfandel 2007
An utterly distinctive bouquet of raspberries, spiced plum, cake and spice; terrific lift, life and thrust to the finish. Groom's Californian experience shines through. 14.5% alc. Rating 94 points. Drink 2015. Date Tasted Feb 09

Groom Adelaide
Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2007
Daryl Groom has turned out a reasonably bold, intense Savignon Blanc
that weighs under 13% alcohol yet manages to avoid tasting malnourished
or underripe. Fig, melon and citrus aromas and flavors hit the right
buttons, then finish on a lingering note. 90
points

Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc 2003 - 90 points
A sunny, lovely wine, the Groom smells of yellow fruit
and vanilla bean (the latter note is strange, considering
the wine’s unoaked). On the palate, it’s lively and crisp,
with bright pineapple, citrus and green grape flavors.
Juicy and crisp on the finish, with chalk drawing the
wine to its close. Delicious, and affordable to boot.
Editors’ choice.- D.M.

Groom Barossa Valley Shiraz 2001 - 94 points
Lush, deep, rich and ripe, the wine fans out
to reveal complex layers of black cherry, plum, licorice,
spice, chocolate, blackberry, tar, vanilla, coconut and
herbs. Smooth and plush-textured, with a finish that doesn't
quit. - J.M.
June 2003
Groom Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc - 91 points
A bold wine, loaded with bright acidity but balanced
by plenty of weight. I'ts redolent of grapefruit, gooseberry,
fig, melon, fresh-cut hay, lemon and madarin orange. Long
and fresh on the finish.- J.M.

Groom Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc - 90 points
Groom 1999 Adelaide Hills Sauvignon Blanc.
Definitely a food wine. Bone dry to the point of
austerity. White grapefruit and lemon grass with
a little gooseberry in the aftertaste. Crisp, refreshing
acidity.
Mead on Wine Extra
It’s a historic fact that the first recognition received
in the U.S. by Daryl Groom, now star winemaker at Geyser
Peak and once winemaker of internationally famous “Grange”
from Penfolds in Australia, was in this venue. Groom’s
first wines at Geyser Peak showed the promise that has
since been fulfilled, and we were fortunate to be a year
ahead of the pack in making that discovery.
Now he’s making his own wine, under his own name, in very
time quantities, as part of a family owned project.
Total production of these Australian jewels is around
1000 cases, with only 250 of the spectacular Shiraz.
Mead on Wine readers have an inside track on acquiring
some of the few bottles available.

Groom Barossa Valley Shiraz - 98 points
Groom 1998 BarossaValley Shiraz. I ‘m at
a loss for words to adequately describe this fantastic
first release from a vineyard contiguous to the famous
“Grange”vineyard. Unbelievably intense black cherry
and plum fruit with a little extra cassis. It is
difficult to comprehend how a wine can be so big and extractive,
yet so perfectly balanced and silky smooth at such a tender
age. 98 points

Groom
Barossa Valley Shiraz 2005
Shiraz with depth and detail is what makes the Barossa
Valley so revered, as demonstrated here. Fine red and
dark fruits, bright and balanced, placing textbook shiraz
character squarely in regional context. Unobstructive
oak and rock solid fruit.
Groom
Sauvignon Blanc 2007
Showing plenty of typical Adelaide Hills grassy sauvignon
character, this is a reliable all-rounder for summer drinking.
Attractive fragrance with some finer characters, the palate
delivers crisp juicy flavour, finishing with lip-smacking
punch.

David Sly: New Brands from notable names.
Groom Bush Block Barossa Valley Zinfandel.
Daryl Groom was a senior winemaker at Penfolds in the Barossa before spending the past 20 years in the United States driving the company's Californian operations, and he's now steering his own ventures. However, he has maintained an interest in the Barossa, leading to his own boutique label run in partnership with viticulturist David Marschall. As a sign of Daryl's Californian interest, one of only three wines produced by the label is zinfandel, though the super ripe fruit taken off the duo's Bush Block at Kalimna is more robust than many of its Californian cousins. The resulting wine shows very Barossan hallmarks: deep, dark colour, fruit driven character, considerable weight in the back palate with brooding black fruit notes, although a very spicy, raisiny aroma with a hint of pomegranate's sweet tang shows zinfandels distinct character.

In a broad blind tasting of 50 Shiraz from Australia that cost $20 to $50, these were our 8 favorites. These are good with a rare steak, a very juicy hamburger or grilled, herbed chicken.
Groom (Marschall Groom Cellars) 2004 (Barossa Valley).
Good/Very Good. Easy and informal, with a hint of roasted
fruit and a bit of attractive earthiness.

Groom Barossa Bush Block Zinfandel - 91 points
Vintage 2007
Nick Stock: There ain't too many folks investigating the merits of Zinfandel in the Barossa Valley but it looks to work well. Trademark dried blue fruits and just a hint of liquorice here, plenty of width through the palate but not too unruly. Dried plum finish.

Groom 2006 Shiraz
This wine is poised to become Australia’s next cult Shiraz. (No surprise that it is made by the man responsible for producing Penfolds’ Grange from ’84-’90.) A nose of black cherry, currant and cocoa precedes a bowl of black fruit flavors, dusty tannins and pleasantly biting acid. Restrained by Aussie standards, underlying leather and anise keep the Shiraz grounded.
